HOUSTON, TEXAS — Modeling was Elena Davis’ way out of poverty. Born in northern California, her childhood was filled with welfare offices and transient homes. “At times we didn’t have enough food to eat,” said Davis, a former 1980s fashion model who founded I Am Waters, a nonprofit organization to address water deprivation among the nation’s homeless. “When you’re homeless and you’re poor, you feel like you don’t belong anywhere. It really erodes at your self-esteem.”

’80s Supermodels Bring In Big Dollars For I Am Waters Foundation Inaugural Fundraiser | Houston , Texas | Culture Map

HOUSTON, TEXAS — A collection of ’80s supermodels on stage and a ballroom full of glam social mavens, where beneath the frothy surface a serious cause was generously supported. A remarkable $400,000 was raised at the inaugural fundraiser for the I Am Waters Foundation, which provides bottled water, emblazoned with words of hope, to the homeless.

The Water Project

HOUSTON, TEXAS — Water Water everywhere but for some it is not that easy. To create awareness, UNICEF launched the Tap Project, an award winning campaign designed to provide clean water to children around the world. Every day 4,000 children die of water related diseases, and nearly 900 million people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water. Houston was selected as one of only five national enhanced markets to implement the campaign this year, which involved a leadership team to direct efforts. During World Water Week, March 19-25, various restaurants encouraged patrons to donate $1 or more. In Addition, former supermodel Elena Davis spoke to the Rotary Club of Houston Skyline about her I Am Waters Foundation that provides spiritual and physical hydration to the homeless.

I Am Waters Foundation Helps Houston’s Homeless | Houston Lifestyle Magazine

Area nonprofits provided 186,000 bottles of water to the homeless in the Bayou City thanks to a donation from the Houston-based I AM WATERS Foundation. Nearly one-third, or 68,000 bottles, went to Star of Hope for distribution to its women and children, mobile outreach and men’s programs as part of the homeless mission’s 10-week Summer of Hope program.
