GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO — Rodger Holmes is one of 15 veterans that will be moving into St. Martin Place on Friday. “For about a year I have been homeless,” Holmes said. “And it’s been an experience which I would not trade for anything because I’ve learned so much about myself and about life.”

Homeless Teen Who Lived In A Tree Finds New Home | ABC News

The teen who once spent two weeks living in a tree has a new home. George, 18, who found shelter in the branches of a tree in San Francisco in 2009, moved in with his grandparents in Washington state earlier this summer and plans to attend Whatcom Community College in the fall, the teen told “20/20″ this week. George reconnected with his grandparents last year and spent Christmas with them. It was a time, he said, of “a lot of shopping, love, arms around me.”

The Families of Carney Place | Habitat For Humanity

NORTH CAROLINA — On a sunny summer day at Carney Place, John Perry ran the circular saw, cutting gables for the new home that will soon belong to Lynn Burklow, a teaching assistant and after-school teacher in Asheville, North Carolina.

When the day’s work ended, Perry went home to his tent. Homeless off and on for 12 years, he is one of a regular corps of homeless men and women who help build Habitat homes in Asheville.

“This right here is a good way to get closer to God and His people,” he said during a break in the gable-cutting. “These are His people right here. These are His workers. We’re doing something for humanity, helping people to have homes.
