Washington Township Students Collect Jeans For Homeless Youth | Washington Township , New Jersey | NJ
Members of the Chestnut Ridge Middle School’s Future Acts club kicked off a campaign to collect jeans for homeless youth in the area on Wednesday.
Hanging blue jeans from the hallways with a “Got Jeans?” sign, the club members, along with advisers Karen DeFranco and Christine Bodine, collected more than 100 gently used pairs of jeans. They teamed up with retailer Aeropostale and its “Teens for Jeans” campaign. The jeans will be brought to the Deptford Mall’s Aeropostale store, where they will then be distributed to county shelters.
For an extra boost, the students also filled the pockets with notes of encouragement and well-wishes.
“I was shocked to learn that one of every three homeless people in this country is under the age of 18 and that 1.6 to 1.7 million people under 18 will experience homelessness this year,”
